Custom Metadata
Th' OnSong® app has always let ye specify metadata — information about each song that helps ye stay organized and manage yer musical performances. However ye can now use custom metadata tags and use those t' browse and sort yer songs.
Creatin'
T' create custom metadata tags, ye use th' Song Editor. Th' OnSong® app uses either th' OnSong® file format or th' ChordPro file format t' specify metadata or song information. This normally includes name/value pairs written as text separated by a colon. Th' ChordPro file format uses curly braces t' contain each pair.
Th' OnSong® app recognizes a number o' tags which be documented in th' OnSong® Metadata and ChordPro Metadata. However, ye can now specify yer own tags. These be stored along with th' song in a way that lets ye browse and sort by those values. For instance, ye could type Genre: Rock or year: 1964 t' have OnSong organize yer song by genre and year.
Browsin'
Once ye add custom metadata tags t' yer songs, they will appear in th' Songs Menu Tags. There ye will see th' tag types ye've entered. Ye can then tap on that type and view values ye've entered which can be used t' filter yer songs.
Sortin'
In addition t' browsin', ye can also use tags t' sort, savvy? T' do this, tap on th' sort menu icon in th' bottom left corner o' th' Songs List t' access th' Sorting Menu. Tags will appear in their own submenu which can be used t' sort. OnSong identifies th' datatype o' tags and uses those methods t' sort.
Displayin'
Custom metadata tags do not display in th' song viewer by default, but ye can customize those in th' Style Preferences Menu › Format Tab by customizing th' Metadata format.
